Advice from your two favourite avid travelers: For booking trains, we recommend using Rome2Rio, Trainline or a similar site to plan your route, then book your tickets directly from the operator. This reduces risk of mistakes on the third-party site, like getting booked on sold out trains, getting rebooked in case of cancellation, etc.

When booking flights, we know this can be trickier and have bigger cost differences between booking directly with an airline or through a third-party. Use a VPN or incognito mode to search for flights, as this can affect the prices you see. For third party sites, Akil prefers Google Flights, Helen prefers Skyscanner or Skiplagged (with skiplagging and self-transfer unchecked - this is important!). 

Always do a cost-comparison between a couple of these sites, including the airline directly, and book according to your price, convenience, and comfort preference. 

Getting to the wedding from Florence, Pisa, or Rome

By car / There are many car rental options around airports and train stations in Florence, Pisa, or Rome, and we’ll link a few below for convenience. 

We’re working with our wedding planner to identify any discounts or specific companies we can recommend, but in the meantime, we encourage you to have an option or two planned. 

General Recommendations /

 ✿ Pre-book your car where possible, otherwise wait times at the airport can exceed 2-hours. 

 ✿ Smaller cars are better than bigger cars in Italy: often cheaper, easier to find parking, and much easier to manoeuvre.

 ✿ Don't forget to organize anything you need to rent a car in Italy, for example, Canadians may require a valid Canadian driver's license, an International Driving Permit from the CAA, your passport (obvs!), and a credit card in the driver's name. It's always recommended to check if your insurance covers collision damage in Europe, as you may not need as much insurance through the rental agency in that case.
